Commuting with the radio
Published: January 2008
Most senior executives and managers spend their time listening to news and talk radio while commuting.
While more than half (56 percent) spend their time during the commute listening to news and talk radio, 40 percent say they spend their time thinking, based on a new survey.
Listening to music (33 percent) and using the phone (32 percent) are among other ways of spending time commuting, according to a worldwide survey of 255 senior executives and managers conducted by NFI Research of Madbury.
"The upper echelons of the work force seem to be catching up on the latest news and opinions via the airwaves while to and from the office," said NFI CEO Chuck Martin.
Sixty-nine percent of business leaders spend up to an hour commuting with 42 percent spending 30 minutes or fewer and 28 percent spending between half an hour to an hour.
Executives and managers shun mass transportation with 78 percent driving and only 8 percent using mass transit.
Two times more managers than senior executives spend an hour or more commuting with 38 percent of managers and 19 percent senior executives.
NFI Research surveys 2,000 senior executives and managers globally every two weeks.
