NAMES AND FACES - APRIL 2006

KAARIN OLOFSSON of Portsmouth has signed on as the GREATER PORTSMOUTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE new events and marketing manager and has already started the process of reviewing this year's slate activities. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a BA in communications, Olofsson comes from a career in radio sales and marketing where she has created and managed many eventrelated promotions. Before coming to the chamber, she worked with KFRC 99.7 in San Francisco, WBZ NEWSRADIO in Boston and WOKQ, WPKQ & THE SHARK in Dover. She is also active in the Seacoast community through volunteer work in a number of local organizations. She serves with the SEACOAST KIWANIS CLUB and has provided marketing and public relations support for ST. PATRICK SCHOOL in Portsmouth. Olofsson was also instrumental in helping local charities gain exposure through her position as marketing consultant with THE SHARK. Olofsson is responsible for sponsorships and planning all chamber events which include business after hours, breakfast forums, the annual dinner, legislative reception, holiday auction, holiday wine tasting, annual golf tournament and the PORTSMOUTH HARBOUR TRAIL 5K ROAD RACE.

BEVERLY A. JOYCE is the winner of two gold medals in the 21ST ANNUAL NATIONAL ADMISSIONS ADVERTISING AWARDS. The competition awards designers for their work based on creativity, marketing execution, and the impact of the message. Awards were presented to Joyce for her work on recruitment booklets for the FRYEBURG ACADEMY in Fryeburg, Maine. Joyce is the founder of JOYCE DESIGN SOLUTIONS in Exeter.

RICHARD DOCKERY of North Hampton was recently named CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER for the NEW HAMPSHIRE COMMUNITY TECHNICAL COLLEGE SYSTEM. As chief information officer, Dockery will be responsible for directing and managing the system's administrative computing services and leading the IT department in developing, enhancing and maintaining the technological infrastructure needed to support the college system in achieving its instructional and business goals, and provides guidance to system and college administration on all areas related to technology. For the past seven years, Dockery has worked at the UNIVERSITY SYSTEM of New Hampshire where he served as a database administrator and a database administration/development manager where he was responsible for managing and leading technical teams for the installation, upgrade, maintenance, and integration of the Banner Software Suite as well as Oracle software.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT honors TOM WALSH with a HOTELIER OF THE YEAR Award. The award is the highest honor given by the university to a hospitality professional. Walsh is being honored for work within his company, OCEAN PROPERTIES, Ltd. Walsh began his career establishing a small warehouse in Bangor, Maine, and building his first hotel in Brewer, Maine, in the 1960s. He is a resident of North Hampton.

PAUL D. SCHMIDT and WILLIAM A. STRAUB have been named New Hampshire YOUNG ENGINEERS OF THE YEAR by the JOINT COMMITTEE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE ENGINEERING SOCIETIES. Schmidt is a graduate of Clarkson University and UMass Amherst and lives in Stratham. Straub is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College. He lives in South Berwick.

GARRAND MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS in Portsmouth has hired GINO BONA to fill the company's newly created DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT position. Previously working with ALOFT GROUP Inc., of Newburyport, Bona has worked with clients such as MONSTER.COM, GEODECK, and DICTAPHONE. He is also a columnist with ESPN.com and was a speech writer during AL GORE'S 2000 presidential campaign.

THE GREAT BAY CHAPTER of the AMERICAN RED CROSS announces the addition of COLLEEN FITZPATRICK, DENISE BENSON, and EILEEN PIET to their chapter operations staff. Fitzpatrick is now the DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY SERVICES at the chapter. She recently worked as an administrator for the BIGELOW COMPANY in Portsmouth and has worked as a volunteer with the chapter for the last three years. She resides in Newmarket. Benson is the wife of former Governor CRAIG BENSON and takes on the position of volunteer coordinator. She has volunteered with the chapter in years past. Benson resides in Rye. Piet is now the LNA PROGRAM DIRECTOR for the chapter and comes with more than 30 years of experience in the field. She is an RN, licensed nursing home administrator, and a certified RN coder. Piet lives in Hampton.

 

JULIE MILLARD joins EVENTIDE HOME as their new SOCIAL SERVICE COORDINATOR. Millard has nearly 20 years experiences in the human-services field. Before joining the company, she worked at a day program serving adults with psychiatric disabilities. Eventide Home is a nonprofit nursing and residential care facility in Exeter.

EASTERN PROPANE & OIL announced today it has hired RICK SANBORN as MANAGER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. Sanborn was formerly the network manager at APOGENT TECHNOLOGIES in Portsmouth. Prior to that he was a network engineer at HARVARD INDUSTRIES for 10 years.

 

BOB DUNFEY and STEPHANYE SCHUYLER have been named as CO-CHAIRS of the WORKFORCE HOUSING COALITION OF THE GREATER SEACOAST. The coalition's mission is to encourage the development of a range of housing for the workforce of the Greater Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Maine. The members of the coalition are from area businesses, community leaders and concerned citizens who recognize the connection between a diverse housing stock and regional economic vitality. Dunfey, a member of the Dunfey family of New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts, is a resident of York, Maine, and a private consultant to hotel and real estate developers. Schuyler is a public relations executive for UNITIL, a gas and electric public utility serving the Seacoast and Capital regions of New Hampshire and North Central Massachusetts. The coalition extends its appreciation to the out-going co-chairs, JAMESON FRENCH, president of NORTHLAND FOREST PRODUCTS, Inc., and DICK INGRAM, president of the GREATER PORTSMOUTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

PAUL MCINNIS of North Hampton has earned the ACHIEVER AWARD from SPERRY VAN NESS, one of the nation's largest commercial real estate investment brokerage firms. In 2005, he secured transactions valued at $6 million.

 

STACEY BOYLE joins the team of professionals at MARTIN FAMILY ENTERPRISES in Exeter as director of marketing. Prior to joining Martin Family Enterprises, Boyle was manager of marketing for North America at the TIMBERLAND Company. Boyle is a marketing executive with extensive experience in developing, managing and implementing marketing programs and strategies as well as negotiating marketing partnerships with national brands and retailers. Boyle also is a licensed NH real estate salesperson.

SHARRON EASTMAN, owner of BIG HORIZON MORTGAGE CORPORATION in Kennebunk, has accepted a position on the MAINE ASSOCIATION of MORTGAGE BROKERS BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Eastman brings more than 10 years of mortgage brokerage and origination experience to the board and will expand her participation to include a seat on the association's Education Committee. She was instrumental in planning and coordinating the group's recent Mortgage Professional Expo, successfully attended by more than 100 mortgage and real estate professionals from across New England.
